Sylvain Rigaud has specialized in bankruptcy, insolvency, financial restructuring, and related litigation for now 35 years. Sylvain has  acted in a broad range of different business sectors and industries (financial services, real estate, natural resources, pulp and paper, mining, energy, manufacturing, pharmaceutical and life sciences, high-tech, retail, aeronautics, construction, aircraft financing, shipping  and admiralty) and also on behalf of various parties on the forefront of complex restructurings including debtor companies (both public and private companies), their directors (with respect to their statutory liability and their fiduciary duties),  creditors (bondholders, secured lenders and trade creditors), court appointed officers and as court appointed representative counsel. Sylvain has appeared in insolvency matters before the Quebec Superior Court, Quebec Court of Appeal, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Ontario Court of Appeal, Newfoundland and Labrador Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada.

He often acts for clients involved in distressed asset sales and acquisitions, debtor in possession or interim financings, secured and unsecured creditor rights enforcement and related priority disputes. Sylvain has gained extensive experience in cross-border insolvency matters and under all facets of the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act and the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act proceedings.
